Departments of the Jamiah
| Departments of the Jamiah Nazirah-e- Qur′aan ( Reading the Qur′aan) The young children, who take admission in this department, are at first taught to recognize Arabic letters and practice their pronunciation from an elementary book, "Qaaida" and thereafter, they are taught to practice reading the noble Qur′aan correctly – from beginning till end. Simultaneously, rules of "Tajweed"(Phonetics) are taught for correct recital. The teacher also teaches them the basis tenets and fundamentals of Islam as well as rules and methods related to ablution, cleansing and Salah. This department also provides an additional facility for school-going children. Those who go to school in the morning can attend the afternoon shift and those who go to school in the afternoon can study in the morning shift of this department. Tahfeez-ul-Qur′aan (Memorizing the Noble Qur′aan) This is an important department of the Jamiah. Here, children are taught to memories the Noble Qur'aan once they have completed 'Naazirah'. After the inception of the Jamiah till this date, thousands of boys and girls have been blessed with the honour of committing the Noble Qur′aan to memory -both at the Jamiah and its branches. Even now, thousands of boys and girls are memorizing the Noble Qur'aan in this department. Tajweed (Quranic Phonetics) Special attention is paid to the art of Tajweed at the Jamiah so that every student is able to recite the Noble Qur′aan correctly. Besides these classes, it is also one of the compulsory subjects taught at primary and secondary levels of the Dars-e-Nizaami. Competent teachers, who are well-versed in this field, teach this subject. Intermediate Level Children seeking admission, who have not studied earlier in any school or who have studied up to primary level of education, are admitted to this section. They are taught Urdu and Persian languages of beginners level – both reading and writing, and they undertake a basic course of religious education, besides the “Middle School” course. Dars-e-Nizaami Nearly all the religious institutions of the Indian sub-continent have unanimously agreed to approve an eight-year course for the study of "Dars-e-Nizaami' after a student has qualified the middle school. The Wifaaq-ul-Madaaris-il-Arabiyyah has divided it into four learning stages – Aammah, Khaassah, Aaliyah and Aalimiyyah. Each stage spreads over a period of two years. The subjects taught in these stages are: Translation of the Qur′an and its exegesis, Principles of Exegesis, Hadeeth, Principles of Hadeeth, Jurisprudence, Principles of Jurisprudence, Inheritance laws, Theology, Biography of the Prophet, History of Islam and other branches of learning such as Arabic Language, Literature and Grammar, Prosody, Rhetoric, Logic, Philosophy and Astronomy, etc. The courses offered are the ones, which have been prescribed by the Wifaaq-ul-Madaaris. However, the Academic Committee of the Jamiah has included important and beneficial books in some of these courses. The student who has qualified the Middle and Dars-e-Nizaami is awarded the degree of Aalamiyya, equivalent to a Masters in Arts (M.A) degree. Arabic Classes From the first to the fourth stages, the medium of instruction is in Arabic too, besides in Urdu. In the beginning, it was restricted only to foreign students. At later stages, it was decided to allow local-students to join these classes on the basis of their interest, proficiency and capabilities in Arabic language. Specialization Courses Hadhrat Banori (Rahimahullah) had founded the Madrash, at first, specifically to offer "Takmeel" courses for the religious Madrasah graduate scholars with the intention of teaching them the Noble Qur′aan, Sunnah, fiqh and Arabic literature on a highly advanced level. Later on within his lifetime, these courses were then renowned as takhassus (Specialization). Only those competent graduates are admitted to these courses who have already secured distinction in "Dora-e-Hadeeth" in the annual examination of the Wifaaq-ul-Madaaris. Up to now a large number of students, who have graduated from the Jamiah in takhassus in Fiqh-ul-Islaami, Hadeeth and Ad-Dawah wal-Irshaad, are disseminating the religious knowledge all over the world. Education for girls On the educational pattern of male students, the Jamiah has also organized education for female students in the Noble Qur'aan, both - Naazirah and Hifz (memorising) as well as a customized Dars-e-Nizaami course. Education is available for them from the middle class to the Aalimiyyah class. The educational course from Aammah to Aalimiyyah is the one which the Wifaaq ul–Madaaris-il -Arabiyyah has prescribed. However, the subjects taught in the middle class includes Tajweed, Arabic and Urdu –both writing and reading, and Islamic teachings, besides contemporary subjects such as Mathematics, English, Social sciences and others. There is a separate building for the girls where they study for six hours after which they return home. The Jamiah also provides an efficient pick-and-drop transport facility for them. Education for Adults Arrangements have also been made for teaching Naazirah Qur'aan with tajweed and basic tenets and fundamentals of Islaam for the adults who are either living or working in the neighborhood of the Jamiah. These classes are conducted after Maghrib. Special attention is paid to the menial staff of the Jamiah like servants, guards and drivers to ensure that they attend these classes without fail. Thus, they get the opportunity to learn to read the Noble Qur'aan correctly, acquire basic knowledge of Islam, and receive the full advantage of the religious environment of the Jamiah. Examinations are held and encouragement is given to those who secure good position. Teaching and Training A forty-day religious-cum-character-building course is organized for students of schools and colleges during their summer vacation. This course has been specially prepared under the guidance and supervision of the teachers of the Jamiah. The students of the department for memorizing the Noble Qur’aan , who have memorized the Noble Qur'an wholly, also attend it compulsorily. This course is held annually under the supervision of Jamiah at several places within and outside the country. Thousands of male and female students of contemporary education benefit from it. Oratory It is a practice that all the students of Dars-e-Nizaami assemble on Thursday evenings when no class is scheduled, to rehearse oratory in their respective classes, both at the Jamiah and in the branches.. In this way through their speeches and lectures, they are trained for the future to enlighten the masses about Islam in an excellent manner. A supervisor is appointed over every class. At the end of the year, a class-wise oratory competition is held among its students in all the branches under the supervision of their teachers. Those who stand first in every class of all the branches assemble in the Jamiah and compete with each other. Those who rank first, second and third are awarded special prizes whereas all other participants are given consolation prizes. Calligraphy As a part of extra curricular activities, students are taught the art of calligraphy and good handwriting during the free hours of their classes and particularly between Asr and Maghrib. Two competent calligraphists have been appointed for this purpose. Vocational courses A forty-day vocational training is being offered every year after the annual examinations for the students who have finished their Dora-e-Hadeeth. The main objective of this course is to infuse in them a deep insight and a perfect expertise in the school of thought of the Ahl us-Sunnah wal-Jama′ah; and an ability to strongly and positively frustrate the false and heretic ideologies. They may thus guide the Ummah along the right path. These students are also taught the methods and principles of teaching and oratory. Daar ul–Iftaa Since the establishment of the Jamiah, Hadhrat Banori (Rahimahullah) along with teaching also used to issue Fataawa (religious verdicts). Later on, he established a separate department "Daar ul-Iftaa" for this purpose in 1381 Hijri corresponding to 1961. He appointed Mufti Wali Hasan Tonki (the former Chief Mufti of Pakistan) as the head of this department. This is one of those departments of the Jamiah upon which Muslims have full confidence and satisfaction for rulings issued in answer to their religious problems. The Muftis issue the verdict in writing whether it is of an individual or social nature. Also, a large number of people visit them every day and get oral replies personally to their questions. Similarly, people from within and outside the country send their questions by post. Some also telephone and get their answers there and then. Thousands of edicts are issued annually. A proper record is maintained. To date, more than three hundred thousand verdicts have been issued. Non-Muslims, wishing to embrace Islam on their own accord and will, are helped to pronounce the Kalimah Tayyibah in the Daar ul-Iftaa. A certificate to this effect is also issued to them. So far about six thousand and five hundred non-Muslims have embraced Islam at the Daar ul-Iftaa. Fataawa Compilation The Fataawa that have been issued so far by the Daar ul-Iftaa are being sorted out from their records and compiled systematically. Many expert Ulama are engaged in this task under the guidance of the Muftis of the Daar ul-Iftaa. It is hoped that the collection of the Fataawa of the Jamiah will be publicly available very shortly Insha Allaah. Library The Jamiah has a well-stocked library within its precincts. Apart from text books on the courses offered, it stocks thousands of important books on Islam and other subjects. It is open during both the sessions of studies and also from Maghrib to Isha. Teachers and students make full use of it. Daar-ut-Tasneef Hadhrat Banori (Rahimahullah) had already established an independent department, Daar-ut-Tasnif, right from the very beginning, where books are being written and published on such subjects, which the Ummah is in need of. This department also fulfills the important needs of the Ulama in terms of writing or compiling books. Works of distinguished scholars are translated from Urdu into Arabic and vice versa. Till this date, a very large number of books have been either compiled or translated and published. On the top of the list of the books published by the Daar-ut-Tasnif is Hadhrat Banori′s masterpiece book, "Ma′aarif-us-Sunan"(‘Aquirements In Understanding The Prophetic Traditions)’, which is an Arabic commentary on "Jami-ut-Tirmizi", reflecting his scholarly knowledge and extra-ordinary skills. Likewise, the outstanding student of Hadhrat Banori and a former associate of Daar-ut-Tasneef and a teacher of the Jamiah, Maulana Muhammad Ameen Awrakzai was commissioned by the late Maulana to work on Sharh-ul-Ma′anil-Aathaar lil-Imam-At-Tahaawi (‘Explanation To The Meanings Of The Traditions’ By Imaam Tahaawi) under his guidance. He had done research work on a great part of this book extracting Ahaadeeth from the sources, explaining Imaam Tahaawi’s ‘Nazar’(Analytical scrutiny) and rendering easy its difficult portions. Alhamdulillaah, the distinguished author has accomplished the task and published it under the title "Nathr-ul-Azhaar Sharh Ma′aan-il –Aathaar". (‘Scattering Flowers, A Commentary On ‘Sharh Ma’aan-il-aathaar’)This great work was also initiated under this department. Majlis –e-Da′wat –o- Tahqeeq-e- Islaami The founder of the Jamiah, Hadhrat Banori (Rahimahullah) had formed a department, "Majlis –e-Da′wah wa Tahqiq –e-Islaami" with a view to carry out scholarly and research work on different subjects. Because of his unsurpassed and exemplary yearning for knowledge, he had painstakingly built up a large number of collections of valuable and rare books. In spite of the scarcity of resources, he ordered books from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Syria, India and many other Arab and non-Arab countries and had them delivered to Karachi. The moment he learnt of the existence of a rare book, he became restless and employed every means at his disposal to procure that book or its photocopy for this department. As a result of this, a magnificent library came into existence in a three-storied building adjacent to the Jamiah, apart from the general library of the Jamiah. Besides thousands of important books, there is a precious treasure of many rare scholarly manuscripts. The Ulama, researchers and writers immensely benefit from it. This department has already published a unique and great book in five volumes by the name of "Kashf–un-Niqaab amma yaquluhu at-Tirmidhi wa fil baab"(‘Revealing The Meaning Of Imaam Tirmizi’s:‘wa fil-baab’’) This book is a historic masterpiece on prophetic traditions and serves as an exemplary guide to knowledge of Hadeeth. Hadhrat Banori (Rahimahullah) had, at first, commenced it under the title of "Lubb–ul-lubaab- fima yaquluhu at-Tirmizi wa fil baab" in 1970, which was, later on, entrusted to Maulana Dr. Habeebullaah Mukhtaar in the light of his ability and professional excellence This book is popular and well-read both in Arab and non-Arab countries and recognized as a significant work of reference. Hadhrat Banori (Rahimahullah) often used to say, "Such a big work has not yet been done in the knowledge of Hadith." Insha Allah, the remaining volumes of this book will be published soon. The Monthly ‘Bayyinat’ The Jamiah publishes a monthly scholarly periodical, "Bayyinaat", in Urdu. The first edition was brought out in 1382 Hijri (1962 CE). It promotes Islamic culture and religious issues. It is always in the forefront to arrest and frustrate false ideologies and rising trials and tribulations. Some of its important and well-researched articles and editorials have also been published separately in book form. Among these, the leading books are; Hadhrat Banori′s "Basaa′ir wa Ibar", Maulana Muahmmad Idrees Meerathi′s "Islam men Sunnat awr Hadeeth kaa Tashree’I Maqaam",(‘The Legislative Position Of Sunnah And Hadeeth In Islaam’) Maulana Mufti Wali Hasan Tonki′s "Aa′ili Qawaaneen"(‘Domestic Ordinance’) and Maulana Muhammad Yusuf Ludhyaanawi′s "Ikhtilaaf-e-Ummat awr Siraat –e-Mustaqeem". (‘Differences In The Ummah And The Straight Path’)The department, managing Bayyinat, had arranged publication of most of these books. Articles of a juristic nature and religious verdicts have already been compiled and published by the name of "Fataawa Bayyinaat", in a book, consisting of four volumes. When necessary, a brief supplementary article in English is also included in the "Bayyinat" every month. An Arabic quarterly "Al-Bayyinaa" is also published. It has its own editorial board and plays an important role by way of contributing articles on international affairs, Islamic culture and matters of religious importance. Dispensary The Jamiah provides ample facilities for medical treatment of the students, teachers and other staff. There are two clinics within its boundaries; a general dispensary where general physicians are available and a dental clinic with a dental surgeon. The medicines are provided free by the Jamiah. Moreover, when necessary, students are referred to specialists or outside hospitals or clinics at the expense of the Jamiah for a proper diagnosis of their illness and treatment. TheAllaamah Banori Trust Those Mosque and Madrasahs, who wish to get affiliated with the Jamiah are affiliated through this department as per rules set by the Jamiah. Till this date, thousands of mosques and Madrasahs have been affiliated with the Jamiah in response to their requests. This department guides and cooperates on the legal issues for registration of their Masjid or Madrasah. This trust serves as an intermediary to resolve the differences between the committee and the residents of the area in the management of their respective Masjid or Madrasah, counsel them and where necessary, enforce the decision of the Jamiah. Besides this, this department is also responsible to look after endowment properties of the Jamiah and its related issues. A three- member committee of the teachers of Hadeeth of the Jamiah oversees the affairs of this department. |
